Sad Lucia

Lucia was very sad today when her piggy (the norwex towel/stuffed animal) she dries her hands on broke.

Happy 3rd Birthday Lucia!

Today Lucia turned 3! Time really does fly. It was a fun day, complete with afternoon birthday party with the Reagens and the Liesses.

Lucia at 3 continues to be a joy and is very different than our other kids were – though she looks just like Mari did. She is very social and very independent. She has spent a lot of time with our older kids and with the kids in Susan’s program so she thinks she is a lot older than she is. She speaks very well and seems to have a very strong understanding of the world. She is very observant and is not one to shy away from what she wants.

She typically wakes around 7 or 7:30. She shares a bed with Mari so she will sometimes snuggle with Mari before coming downstairs. When she does come down the first thing she wants to do it talk with Rose. She will hug, kiss, and dance with Rose until Rose gets fussy. She loves to spend time outside and to play with her dolls. Lately it seems like she has been taking a doll everywhere. Her favorite food is pizza for sure, but she also likes beans & rice and yogurt. She sometimes takes a nap in the car and goes to bed at the same time as Mari and Elliot at night, 9.

Lucia Napping

The big kids spent the night at Mimi and Papa’s last night, so I slept in the same bed as Lucia. She woke up a little early and must have been excited to see me because she was ready to go downstairs. At about 8:30 she told me that she ‘forgot to go back to sleep.’ I asked if she wanted her pacifier to rest with, and she said yes. I guess it worked. She ended up sleeping from about 8:45 to 11:00.

Lucia is a Monkey

I took this picture for something else, but when I came across it I decided I had to remember this period in Lucia’s life. She loves to swing like a monkey. She climbs all over our playset and playhouse and loves to climb up and sit on one of the railings on our deck. I try to stop her, but she just insists. One of her favorite things to go is swing from the ‘grab handle’ – I had to look it up –  in our minivan. She insists on swinging every time she gets in and out of the car. It is cute, and impressive, but it makes getting in and out of the car a pain.

Lucia & Books

Lucia has been looking at books more lately on her own. She doesn’t have the patience for reading with us most of the time, but lately I have found her looking through books more frequently. She definitely favors books about animals.

White Christmas?

It isn’t looking like it is going to be a White Christmas, but the kids at least got to play with a little bit of snow this morning!

Lucia, Andrew's snowman, Mari's snowman. Elliot also made a snowman, but he had some stability issues so Elliot decided to play soccer with him.

Lucia turns 2!

This afternoon we celebrated Lucia’s second birthday! We had the Reagens and the Liesses over after Lucia’s nap for some cake and presents. It was a fun afternoon. Lucia loved all of the attention, singing, and opening presents. The cake was great as well!

Lucia continues to be an incredibly sweet, cute kid. She loves to say hello and always offers a hug and kiss goodbye. She uses ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ appropriately, which is adorable. It is hard not to give her everything she wants!

She sleeps with Mari now, though I still get her to sleep in the Boba every night. Every time I try something different it just takes too long, so we keep going with the Boba. It is great time together and I get a lot of reading done! She still naps every afternoon and is by far our most consistent sleeper of the 4.

She loves to dance and sing. She loves participating in the Bean Sprout activities, as well. She is in the Parents & Tots class all the time with Susan and will jump in with the Playgarden class whenever she gets the chance. She loves circle time.

At  dinner, usually about 2/3 of the way through the meal, she folds her hands and says ‘pray’, until we pray. Then about a minutes later she folds her hands again and says, “More pray.”

She is not a great eater. She loves noodles and gogurt. She used to eat a lot of cottage cheese, but less so now. She loves rice and for her birthday dinner we had beans and rice.

She loves to go outside and go for walks. The kids do a great job of taking her out and keeping an eye on here when she is outside. She likes stroller rides and bike rides and is always up for an adventure.

If someone gets hurt, she is always there to give them a hug to help them feel better, or she will lightly stroke their leg or back. She understands what sad means, recognizes it, and sometimes imitates it when she is telling a story.

She is a pain to have in church, or anywhere she has to sit down. She likes to keep going.

She still says ‘Eeee’, with an upswing, when she wants to nurse. She calls her pacifier ‘pappy,’ which I think is ‘pacie’.

She loves to join in at the homeschool table when she is not with the Bean Sprout kids. She writes remarkably well (she at least knows how to hold a pencil) and will ask us to write a list of names on her paper, always starting with Hopey and Nate. She loves the Reagens – especially Hope and Nate.

When she sees someone she likes or even knows she says ‘Hi’ and runs to them, Susan gets this treatment all the time.

Mari gets a Violin and Lucia is a Pickle

in 3rd grade we like the kids to start learning an instrument. Andrew has been taking piano lessons for almost 2 years now and Mari has decided to start the violin. We went to the music store today to get her violin and now it is off to the races. Not really. We can’t even figure out how to make a sound. Mari has her first lesson tomorrow.

In other news, Susan and I had dinner with some friends tonight and Erin watched the kids for us, including Lucia. When Erin asked the kids, “Who made this mess?” Lucia answered “Pickle.” She thinks her name is pickle, which is what Susan calls her sometimes. if you ask her what her name is, she says “Pickle.” Hilarious.
