Rose’s New Hobby

Rose’s Latest Victim

Rose has been climbing up on stools and chairs lately to access things that were previously out of her reach. Each of the past three days she has climbed up to reach a glass on the table, taken a drink, and then dropped the glass to the floor, breaking it. We have a new policy now where we are not allowed to leave glasses on the table.

Lucia’s First Time Skating

I took the afternoon off today so we could enjoy the ice before the warm weather takes it away. The Reagens dropped off some ice skates for Lucia so she was able to join in the fun. She actually kept her skates on for over two hours. She enjoyed skating while holding hands, skating by herself, and making snow angels on the ice.

Ice Skating

It has been cold the past couple of weeks and today the ice was thick enough on the creek for us to get out for some ice skating. The three older kids and I skated and played hockey, Lu played in her snow boots, and Rose and Susan joined us late to play for a little while. Rose was not a huge fan.

First Snow

Rose loves the snow!

We had our first significant snowfall last weekend – just enough that we had to shovel, could sled, and could make snowmen. Rose loved being out in the snow and just needs to figure out how to function while wearing mittens.

The Bathroom Light

A few weeks ago Susan and I noticed that when we were going to bed the kids’ bathroom light was on, with the door closed, and no one was in there. After some inquiring we learned that the bathroom light is the key to Andrew’s AM radio habit. It turns out that Andrew is a sports radio junkie and he has learned that his AM reception is better when the bathroom light is on.

Andrew often spends time in his room alone listening to the radio. I think he knows more about what is going on in sports than I do.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Hard Workers
Hard Workers

Last night we put up our real Christmas tree. We also have an artificial tree that we put in the front room. The kids love finding and hanging their ornaments from years past.

Rose even got into the action this year. It seems like she will like the Christmas tree, so by Christmas I fully expect most of the ornaments to be out of her reach.

This calls for a celebration!

Dominos

Last year for Christmas Elliot for a bed tent and a large set of dominos. Both are still going strong!

A typical Wednesday afternoon.

Reading before bed

One of the great things about having 5 kids is that it gives them all plenty of opportunities to interact, provide, and care for each other. Last night, after I read to the kids, I had to go lay Rose down. When I came back to say goodnight to Mari & Lucia I found them sitting on the floor, reading a book together. What a great time and what a special relationship!
