Church!

We are often traveling on Sundays, so we have not been attending church regularly on our trip. This morning we went to a nice church right in Winthrop, Friendship Alliance Church. It was a nice service and a very friendly community. After church we chatted with a couple who was in town for a car show.

St. Mary -> Winthrop

Today we made the drive from Montana to Washington. We are staying in the town of Winthrop, which is a really cute town in the Methow Valley. Everyone here as been super-friendly and welcoming. The valley certainly has a good feel to it.

We are staying at Silverline Resort, which is a private campground set right on a lake. It is beautiful and a great place to stay. There are two bummers: their internet stinks and on the way into our spot I ran into the electric box. The box one, but the damage to the RV is minimal.

Today’s Highlights

Smoky day today. This evening we got out to visit the horses one last time and we played a game of SPUD. On the walk home we saw a fox trotting across the campground. We are all hitched up and ready to hit the road in the morning. There aren’t really great sunsets from our campground because of the mountains, but after a smoky day we did enjoy seeing some clouds this evening and some sunset colors.

St. Mary Lake Beach

After work today the kids and I headed into the park to complete their Junior Ranger requirements and to go to a rocky beach where we could play in the lake. About 5 miles into the park the smoke really became thick, but that didn’t stop us from having fun swimming, skipping rocks, and chasing minnows. It was a welcome site when we arrived back at our campsite to almost clear skies.

Back to Sun Point

This evening we had a little time to go back in to the park so we went back to Sun Point. When we were there last night it was already dark. This evening we had some more time to explore.

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for the kids! It means a new and more structured routine for our life on the road. Andrew is in 8th grade, Mari 6th, Elliot 5th and Lucia still in preschool, though she is insisting that Susan teach her letters.

Baring Falls & Sun Point Hike

This evening we went back in to the park for a short hike to Baring Falls and Sun Point. On the way in we stopped a couple of times to see some bears in the open fields. First we saw two grizzlies way off in the distance. Then we saw a black bear a little closer.

Campground Panorama

The campground we are staying at has beautiful views. We only get a glimpse when the smoke clears. It sits on a hill, with Glacier National Park and St. Mary Lake to the West and Lower St. Mary Lake to the east.
