Easter in Yemassee

We started the day off with our traditional Easter basket hunt. Our kids leave their Easter baskets out on the table the night before Easter and the Easter bunny hides them.
Even in the RV, it still took Andrew over 30 minutes to find his basket.
After finding Easter baskets, we head outside to find the eggs that the Easter bunny has also hidden.
This year we went for a walk around the lakes near our campground. It was a cool 65 degrees for our walk, but when I looked at the weather in Des Moines it was 24.
All ready for church!
We went to Saint James the Greater, a small Catholic church about 15 minutes from our campground. It was great.
After church they had a small Easter celebration with hot dogs and treats.

More Herrel Fun

We headed back to Hilton Head this morning to visit with the Herrels one more time before their family/holiday time took over. We walked to a nearby park where we played at the playground, at lunch next to a gazebo, and then played a couple of mini tennis tournaments.

Visiting the Herrels

After finishing our drive from Jacksonville this morning, we set up quickly and headed to Hilton Head to visit the Herrels, who are there for the week. Lucia and Leah were thrilled to see each other again. The Herrels are staying in a big house with some extended family, so it was nice to see Simon’s family and get to meet some new folks.

Miami -> Punta Gorda

Today we made the 3 hour drive from Miami to Punta Gorda. Holly, Alex, Henry, and Sawyer arrived yesterday in Punta Gorda. We will are staying our RV, about 15 minutes from Alex’s mom’s house, where they are staying.

The drive today was awesome. We drove right through the Everglades. There was a canal along the side of the rode and we must have seen about 100 alligators sunning on the side of the canal. It was cool to see them up close on our airboat ride a couple of days ago, but it was equally as cool to see so many sitting fully out of the water.

The Florida Keys

With a whole day at our disposal, we headed to the Florida Keys. Six months ago we were whale watching in the San Juan Islands, and today we are in the opposite corner of the United States.

Life in Miami

We have really enjoyed our time in Miami. The weather has been great and there is plenty to do – around town and at the rv park. Today we enjoyed some of our favorite activities around the rv park.

Andrew enjoys some Pollo Tropical.

Our daily game of shuffleboard. Elliot and I just couldn’t seem to catch Andrew and Mari.
Lucia always finds friends.

Our neighbors had a jam session.

Airboat Tour

Yesterday after work we headed out on an airboat tour of the Everglades. We signed up for a 90 minute tour. Once we arrived at the tour location we were quickly boarded and off into the Everglades we had fun cruising around and looking at the plants and animals. We would drive for a while, then stop and look at things, then go somewhere else. Our guide had a good plan and showed us several alligators, birds, fish, and plants.

RV Park Minigolf

This evening we had the chance to play minigolf at the RV park. A few of our parks along the way have had courses, and they are not usually well maintained. The minigolf course here is amazing – with some cool features we have never seen before.

Hanging out in South Beach

After work we went to South Beach. We started by hanging out at the beach.
There was an iguana playing in the waves.
Our older kids also had fun playing in the waves.
After the beach we had a picnic in the park.
I had to pose in this funny position so you could see the palm trees in my sunglasses.
