Life in Phoenix

We had a hard time finding a campground in Phoenix that met our criteria. Many of the campgrounds here are 55+, which we definitely do not qualify for. We ended up about 45 minutes north of the city on a lake. It is a nice place and I am sure we will find plenty to do over the next few weeks.

San Diego -> Phoenix

It was a bittersweet day today. We left California, where we have been for nearly three months. We left San Diego, arguably one of the nicest places we have visited and definitely one of the warmest places in the country. Our RV adventure continues as we turn the corner and head east, making our way across the south. We will be in Phoenix for about a month, then continue on to be in Florida by March.

Our Excursion crosses the 300,000 mile mark!

Afternoon Hike

This afternoon we went on another hike in the hills around our campground. It was a beautiful day and a fun hike.

Inspecting a rattlesnake rattle, sans snake.
A snake.

We took a border patrol road on the way up, but off-roaded it on the way back.
Almost home.

Christmas in San Diego

Christmas in San Diego was a lot like Christmas back home. The kids were up early and we started the day by going through the stockings that Santa filled for the kids. After stockings we had our traditional breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes. Then it was back to the tree to open the rest of the presents. Normally at this point we spend a few hours playing with our new toys and then head to the Reagens’ for Nate’s Birthday, but this year we had to settle for a 15-minute skype session late in the afternoon. That was definitely the strangest thing about being on the road.

Campground Hike

Our RV park, Pio Pico, is about 30 minute outside of San Diego. This afternoon we went or a hike in the hills around the campground. The hills are adjacent to the border and border patrol activity is common in the area.

Freezing

In general, we are trying to stay where it is warm. Last night was rather chilly and when I woke up this morning there was no water pressure in the RV. I quickly diagnosed that the metal elbow that connects our water hose to our RV had frozen overnight. An easy fix, with no damage. Hopefully it warms up!

Las Vegas -> San Diego

This weekend we moved from Las Vegas to San Diego. It was about a 6 hour drive, that took us 7 hours because we had to stop for the bathroom and gas. We are staying at Pio Pico, which is an RV campground southeast of the city only half of the park has sewer, so Saturday night we stayed on the non-sewer side and on Sunday there was a crossover process where we could find a site on the sewer side, which we did.

Menifee -> Las Vegas

It took us about 5 hours to drive from Menifee, CA to Las Vegas. There were a couple of stretches that were very windy, so aside from being nerve-racking we also had to drive very slowly.

We are staying about 30 minutes southeast of Las Vegas, near the Hoover Dam.
